Summary[]

After a breach of the Prime Directive on alien planet, Captain Freeman doesn't confine Becket Mariner to the brig as expected but orders a therapy with psychiatrist Dr. Miglemoo. Boimler is nervous because of an upcoming job interview with the captain. He sets up a training program in the holodeck, with authentic recreations of the Cerritos crew, in order to find out how he can ingratiate himself. Mariner hijacks the scenario and turns it into a movie called "Crisis Point: The Rise of Vindicta", in which she plays the titular villain.

Vindicta's goal is to humble and destroy Captain Freeman, a goal which she pursues with unrelenting violence against the holographic crew of the Cerritos. After she has made the ship crash, only Vindicta and Freeman are still aboard. But then the holographic Mariner appears and saves her mother and courageously fights against the vengeful Vindicta. When the program ends with the destruction of the Cerritos, Mariner has learned a lesson about dealing with her anger. Boimler, on the other hand, runs the program a bit too long and learns from the holographic Freeman that Mariner is her daughter. This leaves him so confused that he screws up the interview with the real Freeman.

Errors and Explanations[]

Nit Central[]

  1. Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, October 02, 2020 - 2:06 pm: Captain Freeman taps her combadge and orders "Freeman to Cerritos, one to beam up." Usually, the person giving that order is the one being beamed away. How did the transporter operator know to beam up Mariner instead? She could have given special instructions to the transporter operator before she transported down.
  2. It is quite extraordinary that nobody on the Cerritos knows that Mariner is captain Freeman's daughter. Freeman could have done this to avoid accusations of nepotisim.
  3. The moment Tendi leaves the holodeck, the blood she was covered with vanishes. So, why didn't her clothes vanish too, they also were simulated by the holodeck. The clothes were likely created by the holodeck replicator subsystem.
  4. How could Mariner be surprised that her holodeck version actually didn't despise her mother? Maybe she doesn’t want to admit that, deep down, she actually cares about her mother.
  5. Is Boimler really such a good computer hacker that he can access the personal logs of everyone on the ship? (Actually, that does makes sense.) However, the man is so obsessed with making a good impression on the captain, how did he not know that she is allergic to chocolate? It's the kind of basic info he should have learned ages ago. Unless it was classified for some reason.
Since the following events happen in a holodeck simulation, they may not actually be considered nits, but they are still worth mentioning.
  1. Ransom being vaporized by a phaser while being held in Boimler's arms should have badly injured Boimler, if not vaporized him as well. The beam may have been at the limit of it’s vaporisation range.
  2. The ship crashes in unlikely close proximity to the evacuated crew. This could have been done to allow them to retrive any salvagable items as soon as possible.
  3. The ship's self destruct should have killed said crew, we are talking multi megaton explosion here. Not if the force of the blast was directed away from them.
  4. Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Tuesday, October 06, 2020 - 6:51 pm: Shaxs's big phaser cannon was so overpowered, it should have blasted its way clear through the ship's hull and into space. Unless there was a deflector shield covering the inner walls!
  5. Not only did the computer say "Warning, the ship has crashed", it even wrote it on its screen display. This could be to ensure the message gets across.
  6. At the very end, Vindicta emerges from an escape pod and claims she will get her revenge, only to be gunned down by Da Vinci. But wait, Vindicta is Mariner's personna in the movie, she is not part of Boimler's original program, so why did the computer recreate her in this way? Computer glitch?
